Here’s the new Microsoft Teams app for Mac and Windows

We’re excited to let you know that the new Microsoft Teams app is now available for everyone on Windows and Mac. This means that it can be used by more people in schools. We’re also giving our Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and government cloud users (GCC, GCC-H, and DoD) a sneak peek at the new Teams.

We showed off the new version of Microsoft Teams to the public earlier this year. Our main goal was to totally rethink Teams so that it would be a faster, simpler, smarter, and more flexible app that would help people work together and be more productive. The test showed that the new Teams could be up to twice as fast and use half as much memory.

Since the public peek of the new Teams came out, we’ve come a long way. Custom line-of-business apps, third-party apps, breakout rooms, 7×7 video, call queues, PSTN calling, contextual search in chats and channels, cross-posting channel talks, and more are all fully supported by the new Teams. To meet your organization’s changing needs, we’ve worked to improve speed, reliability, security, and IT management.

As soon as the new Teams go live, they will be the only ones who can use the new tools and improvements. New Teams allows both multi-tenant organisations (MTO) and multi-tenant, multi-account (MTMA). This means that communication and teamwork between tenants and accounts can happen easily, across organisational boundaries.

Easy transition to the new teams

Moving to the new Microsoft Teams is quick and easy; there is no need for a transfer! In the coming months, people who used the old Teams will immediately switched to the new Teams. To start your journey with the new Teams, all you have to do is flip the switch in the top left corner of the old Teams app. You can join the millions of other people who use the new Teams to stay in touch with coworkers, partners, and customers and get more done as a group with just one click.

Better app performance on more than one platform

The React technology was used to speed up and improve the performance of the new Microsoft Teams app on Windows. Since resources are shared with Edge, using Edge WebView2 as the host for the new Teams app has helped cut down on memory and disc space use. Making the switch to new core technology has made the Teams app much more reliable and efficient. When compared to the old Teams, the new Teams takes up to 50% less memory and disc space, starts apps faster, joins meetings faster, and lets you switch between chats and channels faster.

Mac users will also see better performance, making it easier to get to important information by scrolling faster and switching between chats and channels more quickly. Teams now works directly on Mac, which makes the app better for Mac users. Thanks to better security and better use of resources, Mac users will notice better speed, even when using multiple high-resolution monitors during calls or meetings.

New Microsoft Teams, simplified the user experience to boost productivity

A simpler and more streamlined user experience makes the new Microsoft Teams easier to use. You can now customise your workspace, get notifications, and complete jobs with fewer clicks. There are more customization choices, which give Windows and Mac users more control over the user interface. The new Teams instantly chooses between light and dark modes based on your system settings, so it fits in perfectly with your workspace. The new Teams also has better support for people who are sensitive to colours. It uses Windows 11 contrast themes to let people choose a colour scheme that works best for them. Better features like “mark all as read” are already available in activity and will soon be available in chats or groups.

We’ve also made it easier for people who use screen readers or computer shortcuts to use the site. When using the new Teams, keyboard shortcuts make it easier to move between list items like activity feeds and chat threads, so users can get more done with fewer clicks. Improvements have also made to make the site easier to use for people who use screen readers. These changes make it easier to understand chores and channel conversations, whether they are original posts or responses to posts.

Cross-tenant collaboration that is easy to use

The new Multi-tenant organisations (MTO) tool makes it easier for tenants to work together across boundaries. This makes it possible for rich collaboration and full-fidelity meeting experiences. With MTO, users can connect and work together effectively across various accounts and companies without stopping what they’re doing.

Multi-tenant and multi-account (MTMA) features make it easier to interact with multiple accounts and organisations without any problems. They let users sign in to multiple accounts at the same time and get updates in real time. Users can talk to each other across various accounts and organisations without leaving meetings or calls, which keeps the flow of work going.

Users don’t have to log out of their home tenant accounts to join meetings held in any Microsoft cloud, whether it’s a commercial or government cloud, thanks to the cross-cloud authenticated meeting feature. At the start of meetings, meeting hosts check the names of participants to make sure that participant information is safe.

A smarter Microsoft Teams app that will help you get more done

The new Microsoft Teams is the basis for the next wave of AI experiences, such as Microsoft Copilot. Copilot in Teams works with users to make managing tasks easier by summarising talks and discussions, making meetings more productive, and putting all of the information in one place. With Copilot in Teams, you can quickly understand the main points of talks, see what’s going on in meetings in real time, and bring together information from different Teams apps.
